What is your interest in creating public artwork?
Public art has an incredible power to change the physical spaces as well as the communities living there. The majority of my projects are multi-faceted and complex, bringing together large murals with hands-on participation and interactive education. When working with businesses, the surrounding community is important and it allows for the business to become more embedded in the local happenings and be a true member of the social networks. Currently, I am working with Double Tree Hotel in Bethesda to create branding and a large exterior mural. The top image is the sketch and the bottom image is the progress as of July 22, 2019.

Describe your experience in public exterior wall art projects art projects.
I have an extensive experience working in public spaces. Locally, I have created numerous murals sponsored by DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, MuralsDC and for private collections. Nationally, I also designed and managed large mural activities at festivals such as Lollapalooza or Austin City Limits with over 5000 participants every day. It is important to connect the public art to the residents and get the young artists excited about their city. Currently, I run art programming at Perry Center and work with Words, Beats and Life.

Describe your approach to involving community input in your process of design and/or creation of exterior wall art projects.
The community input is important in my work. The project starts with a community meeting, where I introduce myself and an initial sketch. After the discussion, crowdsourcing session, I present a revised sketch at the following meeting. There are usually community painting sessions, during which the neighbors are invited to paint with me. When working on an educational murals, the students research the topic, gather the imagery, cut stencils and paint the murals using sponges. The final mural is completely designed and executed by the students.
