Arts and Humanities Month Proclamation

2025 PROCLAMATION:
ARTS AND HUMANITIES MONTH
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MARYLAND

WHEREAS, Montgomery County’s local arts agency, arts and humanities administrators, organizations, and individual artists and scholars regularly recognize the month of October as Arts and Humanities Month in Montgomery County on an annual basis; 

WHEREAS, the arts and humanities play a unique role to enhance and enrich the lives of Montgomery County families and communities; 

WHEREAS, Arts and Humanities Month recognizes the importance of expression and culture, encouraging all in Montgomery County to explore new facets of the arts and humanities in their daily lives, establishing a lifelong habit of active participation; 

WHEREAS, in 2025, three of the most diverse cities in the country are in Montgomery County; the arts and humanities represent and uplift all residents from their wide array of cultures and life experiences and help all communities come together to explore their own history and heritage as well as those of other communities; 

WHEREAS, the arts and humanities embody much of the inspiration, imagination, and creative coping solutions needed to foster emotional resilience, cultural understanding and an enhanced sense of belonging across Montgomery County’s myriad communities; 

WHEREAS, the arts and humanities sector in Montgomery County contributes $188 million to our vibrant local economy, generates $9.9 million in state and local tax revenue, and supports nearly 4,000 local jobs that strengthen our workforce; 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I Marc Elrich as County Executive do hereby proclaim October as Arts and Humanities Month in Montgomery County and call upon our citizens to celebrate and promote arts and culture in our county and specifically encourage greater participation in supporting the arts and humanities in their towns cities, and neighborhoods.
