Call for Art! Montgomery County Public Arts Trust Seeks Contemporary Works on Paper

The Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County (AHCMC) and the Montgomery County Public Arts Trust announce a call for art for The Contemporary Works on Paper Collection. Supported by a $25,000 National Endowment for the Arts award, this juried call seeks to purchase original and unframed two-dimensional works of art that are contemporary and modern in style by visual artists living in Montgomery County and the Greater Washington area. Selected artworks will be exhibited in public buildings throughout the county, including libraries, recreation centers, and administrative buildings.

This is the second year of acquisitions for The Contemporary Works on Paper Collection, which was initially reactivated in 2018 through a $50,000 appropriation from the Montgomery County Council. Established in 1975, the collection includes prints, photographs, drawings and paintings from prominent local and international artists. Last year’s call brought 68 two-dimensional works into the county’s collection from 27 artists around the area, including Soomin Ham, Aziza Claudia Gibson-Hunter, Michael Enn Sirvet, Paige Billin-Frye, Susan Goldman, Sandy Sugawara, Shanthi Chandrasekar, and Florencio Campello.

Artworks selected through the call will reflect the unique and diverse character of Montgomery County, as well as the inclusive nature of the collection in terms of style, materials, and subject matter. “Montgomery County’s public art program celebrates and supports our talented artist community by creating spaces that foster innovation, creative excellence and personal reflection. Art in public places enriches the lives of all residents and we are excited to increase opportunities for the public to enjoy these works,” says AHCMC CEO Suzan Jenkins.

The deadline to submit for The Contemporary Works on Paper Collection call for art is Friday, April 26, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. For more information on the collection and to download the call for art, visit: http://www.bettymaekramergallery.com/mcwopcallforart
