Exploring how Montgomery County printmakers use printed works to spread powerful ideas and spark conversation on history, technology, modern life, and nature
The Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County (AHCMC) is pleased to celebrate the opening of Printed Voices with a public reception at the Betty Mae Kramer Gallery and Music Room on September 29, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Printed Voices features works by seven Montgomery County-based artists whose practices incorporate a wide array of print media to explore critical topics such as environmental strain, illness, war, history, and everyday life. Co-curated by AHCMC staff, the exhibition brings together artists selected by a panel of peer jurors Kevin Bowman, Jun Lee, and Sarah Matthews. The participating artists include Annette Fortt, Susan Goldman, Deborah Grayson, Maggie Gourlay, Susan Due Pearcy, Lynn Sures, and Caroline Thorington.
Printed Voices showcases the dual nature of printmaking: intimate in its creation, yet public in its ability to widely circulate images and ideas that shape our collective understanding. It invites viewers to experience the push and pull of a private creative practice producing images that resonate with audiences far beyond a single artist’s studio.
“In a world increasingly dominated by fast digital media, printmaking reminds us of the power of physical, handcrafted storytelling,” says Suzan Jenkins, CEO of the Arts and Humanities Council. “Printmaking bridges private reflection and public conversation. Printed Voices brings together local artists whose traditional art form speaks loudly about life. We hope gallery visitors are inspired by how these works make quiet ideas publicly shared experiences.”
Printed Voices will be on view 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, from September 14, 2026 – November 20, 2026. The opening reception is free and open to the public. Tickets for the reception can be reserved at: https://printedvoices.eventbrite.com
