The IAIA is the nation's only congressionally chartered Institute
of higher education devoted solely to the study and practice
of the artistic and cultural traditions of all American Indian
and Alaska Native peoples. Artwork consisting of painting,
sculpture, ceramics, textiles, jewelry, beadwork, basketry,
and graphic arts comprise the Museum's National Collection
of Contemporary Indian Art. The Institute is the official
repository of the most comprehensive collection of contemporary
Indian art in the world and has loaned items from its collection
