Introduction to Teaching Artists Roster
The Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County has developed a new Teaching Artists Roster. The main purpose of the Roster is to provide high-quality teaching artists, trained in arts integration, for residencies and workshops in Montgomery County public, private, and parochial schools. The Roster is part of AHCMC’s Arts Education Initiative to take an active role in the educational and social welfare of Montgomery County’s children and youth by ensuring accessible, high-quality arts programming. The Roster is an expansion of the work AHCMC initiated in FY 07 with the Teaching Artist Training Institute. The Teaching Artist Training Institute is an intensive professional development program for artists and arts administrators who provide arts programming to Montgomery County schools. In the next year, AHCMC will offer advanced training opportunities to teaching artists. The Roster will be an educational resource providing web users with an efficient method for identifying highly-qualified teaching artists. Artists programs featured in the Roster will meet state and local curriculum objectives and adhere to the highest standards in arts integration teaching. Teaching Artists are: professional artists who are trained in arts integration, school culture, theories of learning, and the MD Voluntary State Curriculum, and are committed to arts education as an integral part of their professional practice. The Roster includes 19 teaching artists searchable in the following disciplines: Music, Dance, Theater/Storytelling, and Visual Arts. |
