Take Action: Montgomery County

As over 400 participants Maryland Arts Day (MAD) in Annapolis learned, Governor O'Malley has proposed flat funding for the Maryland State Arts Council. Delegates attending MAD voiced support for this budget recommendation and for the power of arts and culture. Delegates encouraged us to position advocacy efforts in terms of jobs and economic development.

Advocacy Timeline

  • NOW through mid-March 2012: The County Executive formulates his FY13 Recommended Operating Budget.
  • Thursday, March 15, 2012: County Executive Isiah Leggett releases his FY13 Recommended Operating Budget.
  • Thursday, March 15, 2012 from 2:00-3:30 pm: Join us for an Arts & Humanities Town Hall at American Dance Institute to hear about what the County Executive's FY13 Recommended Operating Budget means for the arts and humanities community and help us form our message moving foward.
  • March through May 2012: The County Council then holds hearings to determine what changes to the budget they will recommend.
  • Early April 2012: Arts & Humanities Advocacy Potluck with County Councilmembers
  • May 2012: The County Council submits budget recommendations to the County Executive.
  • Late May 2012: The FY12 Operating Budget is finalized and approved by the County Executive.
