Casey Snyder

Casey Snyder’s large-scale paintings investigate and appropriate memory.  With precision, Casey Snyder utilizes and then disguises a variety of paint application techniques and media to develop the lush, richly layered canvases featured in the exhibition.  Images amass and meld on the surface, appearing to be abandoned memory, imaginings, and misinformation that have collected over time.  The work, dominated by depictions of spaces that read as both interior and exterior, are filled with fragments of figurative and abstract forms.  With the potential for multiple interpretations, the Freudian scenes created by the artist invite us to explore our own personal histories.

Casey Snyder received her MFA in painting from Kendall College of Art & Design in 2012.  Most recently, her work has been featured in Smith Center for Healing and the Arts in Washington, DC and Galerie Myrtis in Baltimore, MD.  She currently resides in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
